Small Groups: What are they?
Small groups are one intentional way to have fellowship and be able to encourage some friends in the Christian life.
You do not have to be a part of the church membership to attend a small group. However, small groups offer a benefit to Christians in getting to know roughly 5 to 12 other people beyond the mundane "hello. how are you? i'm fine, how are you?"
We share one another's joys and use the time to encourage thinking through how Scripture provides guidance to real life challenges. The small size also lets each group serve as a spiritual medic team when the battlefield of life gets tough (as people face death of loved ones, hospital stays, or things where it is valuable to have friends around, b-day, etc).
God intends a Christian life to be more than Sunday school lectures with general advice, which is why we are so excited about a time to do life together.
A balance of your valuable time is displayed in the New Testament church family. They had large, less-personal gathered times of worship ('in the temple'), and then a smaller 'break bread together' setting too ('house to house'). (Acts 2:46; 5:42; 8:3)
In order to keep the Christian life simple but not boring, we want you to balance the getting information that challenges --and-- the application of it. In sum, we also aim for these small groups of fellowship to help you be a 'doer' of the Bible, not merely a 'hearer' only.
God designed the Christian life to have authentic experience of spiritual growth through the building of meaningful relationships, particularly among people interested in knowing more about God's kingdom in practical ways.
What does this look like? You meet at a Christian friend's house/apartment with other friends, and come prepared to bless and encourage one another. The goal is always to see people know Christ Jesus more in their life, where they're at today.
When are these? They sound interesting...
Each small group keeps a regular time and seeks out authentic, local ways that they may go serve in their community so as to have joy serving Him together.
See Pastor David or Pastor Jesse for more info on time/place.
Generally, we have open groups that meet for fellowship/serving together on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. We'll work with you to get a time and place that is a good fit. Grace to you!
